The Vista install completes and the user removes the DVD. Upon startup, the user finds that Vista will not boot. Vista is looking for the boot code on the drive where the user had chosen to install Vista (system partition). It is not there. Part of it resides on another drive where it is not recognized.

Understandable maybe I just not doing the correct processes to accomplish this task? Below is information about my computer. I have four hard drives installed on my system and Maxtor 6Y080P0 -- drive 0 and Maxtor 7V250F0 [Hard drive] (250.00 GB) -- drive 2 are both recognized by the bios as masters?

Hard Drive Problems.
Specific history: I installed Vista at a point where I knew I needed to reinstall XP. The kids games had trashed the installation. So when I decided against Vista, I just reformated, wiping out both the XP and Vista installations. From that point on XP has not recognized that there is a hard drive in the computer.

Device Manager should show whether the drive is recognized. Also, Vista emits a sound when you plug it in, or at least it should. The other point involves contacting the manufacturer of the USB hard drive. The manufacturer should know whether their hard drive has issues in working with Vista. My own point is that if you have confirmed that your hard drive is spinning up and running after you plug it in, and it still is not recognized by Vista

My conclusions: something changed on the hard drive (a file, a sector used by Vista to recognize the drive) that will knock out Vista, even if its a secondary drive. I was able to get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS; there are no problems with this aspect. The drive is not recognized under Disk Management, however.

Vista will not boot - work around
Vista Home Premium 32 bit Acer Aspire 5100 AMD Turion 64 bt processor 2 gb RAM 120 GB hard drive No new updates available. Acer service is crap, and I'm not finding much help from Microsoft either. Acer also does not provide an install disk so I don't see how I can do a clean reinstall of Vista.

The message files on the 1st CD were Transferred with WET, but the ones on the 2nd CD were not recognized even for Transferring to the Desktop Folder.
